Barber Strives to Make a Difference in North Omaha

Updated: Jun 13, 2021

Damion Sayers has been cutting hair in North Omaha since he bought the barbershop at 24th and Emmet streets 14 years ago. "They've seen me grow up and I've seen them grow up," Sayers said. Transitions Barber and Beauty is a place where customers have come to feel like family.

"I've known their mothers. I've known their sisters. I've known whomever brings them in for their haircuts when they're 4 or 5 years old, and now they're driving themselves in to get their hair cut," he said.

"I do my best to make people feel good and look good," Sayers said. But he does more than that. You'll see evidence of what that is when you take a closer look inside his barbershop. To keep kids out of trouble, he teamed up with some other barbers and started a program bringing books into barbershops. He's also part of an after-school program where he helps children write books.
